Water Dragon (Pencil) by Paul-Shanghai Water Dragon (Pencil) by Paul-Shanghai
I have only had to enter the words (pencil) after a title once before, that was for my drawing 'Running Water'

When I finished this drawing I felt the same way that I did when I finished that one, apart from completely exhausted, I actually liked what I saw in front of me and wanted to make sure people knew that it was drawn with a pencil rather than digital.

This was my most difficult, intense and tiring drawing. Taking over 60 hours to complete, I used only one pencil - my 0.5mm mechanical 4B pencil, why? I guess I was really lazy and didn't want to change pencils every 2 minutes - if I had It would have taken twice as long! it was also good practise in applying varying amounts of pressure to get different effects, rather than using various grades of pencil. My other friend's on creating this were my blending stump, "Tombo Mono Zero' eraser and little brush to keep the rubbings off the paper :D

Drawn on locally sourced smooth paper, dimensions - 70cm X 40cm.

I have just uploaded a Montage of photos taken throughout the drawing of 'Water Dragon' you can see it by clicking the thumbnail below :)

Suggester says: "The way the water flows and how he executed it was splendidly done. I'm really amazed at how he caught the physics of water so well!" This piece is not only well done but unique and full of detail.Water Dragon (Pencil) by =Paul-Shanghai ( Suggested by iDJPanda and Featured by ArtByCher )

Jaw dropping. Not only the technique, skill and patience, but how you visualised this and have the ability to fully realise it.
Simultaneously inspiring and crushing. Kudos!

You really are too kind, i did not realise the effect this drawing would have had on people, it seems it is very well liked :) I do have plans (preliminary sketches) for a sequel, but it has a long way to go to get into a finished drawing - comments like yours encourage me to get moving on it :)  Thanks again.

you're welcome (: but what's the size of the paper used? and what brand of pencils do/did you use?
Paul-Shanghai Mar 13, 2014  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
The paper is locally sourced smooth Bristol board and I cut it to the required size myself.  The actual dimensions of the dragon are 70cm X 40cm and I only used my mechanical pencil for this drawing - 0.5mm with 4B leads.
