Sullen by Paul-Shanghai Sullen by Paul-Shanghai
Another addition to my 'Sad Children' collection :)

This has been one of those drawings i picked up now and again when i was in the middle of other work and needed a distraction, so guess it has taken months to finish. Drawn from a reference photo by 'Alptraum' www.stockfreeimages.com/r1/Alp...
Normal tools - 4B mechanical pencil, 8B, 4H and HB traditional pencils, Tomo eraser and blending stumps.

Thanks for looking :)

You are an amazing artist, through your work, you
have caught something that is real and part of today.
The eyes hold what they feel inside.Let's hope the next time
they will be smiling. Sorry just had a moment.
Thanks for sharing...Wonderful work.

Really appreciate the kind words and the beautiful sentiment - you may be interested to know that my latest work does actually have someone smiling in it - a first for me I think :)

You are very welcome! I was never able to create the depth in graphite mediums the way you do. Do you use special paper to help avoid smudging issues? That was always my downfall in graphite works

For the majority of my drawing I use Bristol Board Smooth (This type www.amazon.co.uk/Rowney-Smooth... I use this for all my A4 and A3 size drawings. For the larger drawings I buy my paper by the sheet from a local artists material shop, it is unbranded but i can tell you it is not as smooth as Bristol Board - but close :)
To avoid smudging I always place a cloth or tissue  under my palm - working from Top left to Bottom right helps avoid resting on work you have already done (if your right handed of course?)  I dont have any other secrets I am afraid :D

Not bad. The eyes don't look very symmetrical and the distance between the nose and lips is a little bit too long. Other that, it looks quite good.

I bow down to your obvious superior drawing ability and emence experience, I never knew eyes were symmetrical, and I will of course inform the child's parents to call the plastic surgeon to alter the distance between his nose and lips.  I normally say thank you to everyone who comments on my work - but to you I will just say Censored

This is gorgeous! I'll be posting one that I will reference your collection. It inspired me to try my hand. The one I chose wasn't exactly sad, but her eyes caught my attention.

Thank you - appreciate the kind feedback.  I tried layering the hair on this one, using a dark pencil over light - think it worked out ok (I hate drawing hair :D)
