I am seriously running out of titles for this type of drawing, which either means I should stop drawing them or start giving the models names - so lets call this guy - "Bob" :D

Drawn on A3 Bristol Board from a (Paid for) Stock Image.  Using mainly traditional pencils from 4B to 4H, along with a Mars Lumograph 8B for his jet black hair.  The background was actually black, but i am so tired of not drawing a background that I made this one up :)

Time taken - about 15-20hours give or take 5 hours!

Incredible. The little paths of water make it that much more realistic.

Wonderful like always! And well chosen background! I know what you mean about black backgrounds it's so boring having to fill whatever space is left with a dark pencil or a marker or something XD

I hate backgrounds - but they do add to a drawing, so must keep pushing myself to try them :)  Thanks for all the kind comments :)

now, THIS is the reason I am a fan.

I think this piece would settle nicely with a title like "Cares."  If you want my 2 nickels.

I cannot put into words the respect I have for this work. Well done sir.
And the water? You are a brave man; you won the battle every artist fears. Great flow...

I will keep that title in the bag - I am sure something just as appropriate will come along shortly :)

I have to be honest, I still think I have some way to go before being 'comfortable' with water, I am fine with the splash stuff - but portraits and water are difficult, I think I did an OK job with a few of my 'water' pieces - but still a long way to go before I can honestly say I am happy with the results.
Thanks for commenting - always appreciate it :)

You are most welcome.

Although I think the water is very well done, I do have to agree with you that no matter how perfect someone else believes our most challenging part in a piece, we will always say "yes, but look at this part…"  I am most certainly on of those person's too.  I have a water piece in my gallery which was my first water piece, and my LAST one to date.  I fear water worse than Buddy in the "Deviners."

But it is pieces like 'Bob' that make me zoom in to see the detail of how you capture the shine, the shadow, and make me want to brave the waters again. :highfive:

you're getting better and better with the water Paul! i really get a sense of it flowing down his face, finding it's path and pulling the rest down to follow it. i also like how you captured the magnified stubble under the water around the sideburn area. and you've even managed to create a feel for the surface tension of the water. great job man! and if you can give me the number of the guy that did the grout work on those tiles ... i need my bathroom done up ;)

Well I did the grouting - and I offer reasonable rates :) Thanks for the comment, I have a couple of big' water projects, and I was actually a little bit nervous about starting them - insecurities!! So I drew this one as a lead into them - to get my confidence back up.  It is strange how sometimes you will just dive in and 'have a-go' and then other times you think about a drawing so much that you talk yourself out of even trying (I was at the later position!).
